Dengue infections are rising rapidly in Comilla, with 115 new cases reported in the first two days of August after 494 infections were recorded across the district in July, health officials said.

The district health department has identified Daudkandi as a dengue hotspot. The upazila reported 182 cases in July, followed by 21 more infections during the first two days of August. Surveillance and awareness campaigns have been intensified in the worst-affected areas, including Sabjikandi, Nagerkandi and Sahapara villages.

Comilla Medical College Hospital treated 236 dengue patients in July. Health officials warned that infections could rise further during August and September.

Hospital Acting Director Dr Mohammad Shajahan said the facility is fully prepared to handle the increasing number of patients, with adequate test kits, medicines and medical support in place.

He urged residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, keep their surroundings clean and seek medical attention immediately if they develop a fever.
