New political platform ‘Bangladesh Jonorashtro Andolan’ launched

A new political platform, Bangladesh Janarashtra Andolan, was formally launched on Monday with its founders pledging to build a new political culture inspired by the aspirations of the Liberation War and the July 2024 Mass Uprising.

The platform was unveiled at a press conference at the Zahur Ahmed Hall of the National Press Club, where a 37-member central committee was announced. Sardar Amirul Islam Sagar was named chairman, Muhammad Ullah Madhu secretary and Iqbal Hossain Samya Shah spokesperson.

The committee comprises 21 organisers and 14 members. Spokesperson Iqbal Hossain Samya Shah read out the party’s declaration, while Secretary Muhammad Ullah Madhu delivered the welcome address. Central committee member Captain Redwan Sikder conducted the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Chairman Sardar Amirul Islam said the initiative had been taken in the absence of an effective opposition in the country.

“Our political initiative stems from the absence of an effective opposition party. Public life has become difficult because of government injustice, irregularities and higher electricity prices. Our principal objective is to build public opinion in favour of the people on these issues,” he said. Secretary Muhammad Ullah Madhu criticised the former interim administration led by Dr Muhammad Yunus, alleging that it had failed to fulfil the aspirations of the July mass uprising.

“The government failed to implement the aspirations of the mass uprising. Instead of fulfilling the expectations of the people, it used the achievements of the uprising for the interests of a particular group,” he alleged.
