One person was killed and four others were injured in a head-on collision between a CNG auto-rickshaw and a private car in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi on Wednesday.
The accident took place in Kumradi area of the upazila on the Itakhola-Monohardi regional highway.
The deceased was identified as Sheikh Mohammad Elias, son of Sheikh Mohammad Imam Uddin, a resident of Bandardia area under Shibpur upazila.
The injured identities are: Abu Bakar Siddique, 65, Pavel, 43, and Saidur Rahman Khan, 50, and CNG driver Hadis Mia, 34. The injured are currently undergoing treatment at Narsingdi District Hospital.
Locals said a fast-moving private car heading towards Monohardi from Itakhola lost control after one of its tyres burst unexpectedly. The car then collided into the oncoming auto-rickshaw.
All five occupants of the CNG auto-rickshaw were severely injured in the impact.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Narsingdi 100-bed District Hospital, where the attending doctor declared one person dead upon arrival.
Shibpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kohinur Mia said police visited the scene after receiving information. Legal action regarding the incident is currently underway.
