Favourable rain boosts Aman cultivation in Bogura

BOGURA, Aug 5: Farmers across Bogura are busy transplanting Aman paddy as favourable monsoon rains have created ideal conditions for cultivation, with the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) setting a cultivation target of 183,505 hectares this season.

According to the DAE, the district aims to produce 661,883 tonnes of rice from the Aman crop this year.

Assistant Agriculture Officer (Statistics) Farid Ahmed said around 10,000 hectares of seedbeds had been prepared this season, ensuring an adequate supply of seedlings.

He said farmers have not needed irrigation due to regular rainfall, making conditions favourable for transplantation.

So far, Aman has been transplanted on about 43,000 hectares, with planting expected to continue until September.

Last year, Aman was cultivated on 182,896 hectares, producing 660,254 tonnes of rice, meeting the production target, according to the DAE.

Officials expressed optimism that this year's production target would be exceeded if the district is spared major natural disasters.

Early transplantation has already begun in Nandigram, Shajahanpur and Gabtali upazilas.

Farmer Mottaleb Mondal of Nandigram said the weather had been favourable for cultivation.

"Regular rainfall has eliminated the need for irrigation, and we are expecting a better harvest this year," he said.
