Police have submitted a chargesheet against 275 people, including former ministers Dr Dipu Moni and Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya and two former lawmakers, in a case filed over attacks, vandalism and explosions during the July movement in Chandpur.
The chargesheet also included Dipu Moni’s brother and district Awami League vice-president Dr J R Wadud Tipu, former minister Maya, former Chandpur-1 (Kachua) MP Dr Selim Mahmud and former Chandpur-2 (Matlab North and South) MP Advocate Nurul Amin Ruhul.
Officer-in-Charge of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station Foyez Ahmed said this is the first chargesheet submitted in any of the cases filed in Chandpur in connection with the student-people’s movement.
According to the case records, 350 people were named in the first information report, while 250 others were listed as unidentified accused.
Sub-Inspector Md Nurul Alam, the investigation officer in the case, said three of the named accused have died.
“After verification and scrutiny during the investigation, a charge sheet was finally submitted against 275 people,” he said.
The case was filed at Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station on Aug 27, 2024, by Moktar Ahmed Patwari, son of late Abdul Jalil Patwari of Patwari Bari in Nayani Lakshmipur area of Haimchar.
