Man Seriously Injured in Suspected Landmine Blast Near Ukhia Border

A man was seriously injured in a suspected landmine explosion near the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar, on Thursday morning.

The injured, Badi Alam, 32, son of Sona Mia of Balukhali Jhum in Palangkhali Union, was reportedly fishing near the Balukhali border area when the explosion occurred at around 10:00 am.

According to local sources, the blast is believed to have originated from a landmine planted inside Myanmar. Badi sustained severe injuries to his right leg and the right side of his body.

Locals rescued him and took him to the MSF Hospital in Kutupalong. After his condition worsened, he was referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

SI Mohammad Azad, in-charge of the Balukhali Police Outpost, confirmed that one person was seriously injured in the explosion and said police were collecting information about the incident.

Palangkhali Union Parishad Chairman M Gafur Uddin Chowdhury also confirmed the incident, saying the victim had been sent for advanced medical treatment.
