Hasina’s statement from India harmful to bilateral ties: Alal

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s adviser Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal has condemned India’s decision to allow former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been convicted of crimes against humanity, to speak from Indian soil.
Alal said the opportunity given to Hasina by the Indian government was harmful to bilateral relations, reports ANI.
“We strongly condemn this. We also condemn the permission given to Hasina by the Indian government. This permission is very harmful and bad for both countries,” he said.
Alal described August 5 as a major victory for Bangladesh’s democracy and a new beginning for participatory government, freedom and media.
He also called for the extradition of convicted fugitive Awami League leaders staying in India, saying Hasina and others convicted in Bangladesh should be handed over to the government.
Responding to comments by Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Alal said Joy had made an objectionable and “anti-state” statement by involving Bangladesh in his remarks about India’s eastern region.
Hasina, who has been convicted of crimes against humanity, joined a virtual press conference from Delhi on Wednesday. Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry subsequently condemned India for allowing her to address the event.
