
A 17-month-old child was killed and five others, including the child’s parents, were injured after a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided with a van in Nakla upazila of Sherpur on Thursday evening.
The deceased was identified as Mujahidul Islam, son of Monirul Islam and Nilufa Yasmin of Dhanakusha area.
The accident occurred around 7:30 pm in the Dhanakusha Bazar area of Nakla Union, according to police and local sources.
Police said the child was thrown from his mother’s lap onto the road during the collision and sustained critical head injuries. He was taken to Nakla Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Two of the injured, Nahid Hasan, 15, and Jahanara Begum, 55, were referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The child’s parents, Monirul Islam and Nilufa Yasmin, along with Furkan Hamid, received primary treatment at Nakla Upazila Health Complex.
Nakla Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ripon Chandra Gop said the CNG-run auto-rickshaw and the van involved in the accident have been seized, and legal proceedings are underway.
