
Three motorcyclists were killed in two separate road accidents in Bogura’s Shibganj and Shajahanpur upazilas on Monday.
Two of the victims, Md Hanjela, 35, of Gabtali upazila, and Md Rony, 20, of Shibganj upazila, were killed when their motorcycle collided head-on with a truck on the Bogura-Rangpur highway at Choukirghat in Shibganj around 9:30 am.
Mokamtala Police Investigation Centre Officer-in-Charge Sanatan Chandra Sarkar said Rony worked as a field officer for a local NGO.
Gobindaganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Kader Jilani said the motorcycle reportedly lost control due to overspeeding and crashed under a stone-laden truck, killing both riders on the spot. The truck fled the scene, and no case had been filed immediately after the incident.
In a separate accident around 8:00 am, another motorcyclist, Md Robin, 24, was killed after being run over by a truck on the Kharna-Karmakar village road in Shajahanpur upazila.
Police said Robin was on his way to his in-laws’ house to take his wife, an SSC examinee, to her examination centre when the accident occurred near Kamarpara village.
Robin was the son of Mamun Mondal of Changuir village under Ashokpur union.
Shajahanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Azim Uddin said the victim’s family had taken away the body before police arrived at the scene. Police were trying to identify the truck involved in the accident.
