‘Science toys’ to be added to pri curriculum: Bobby Hajjaj

‘Science toys’ will be introduced into the primary education curriculum to make children more interested in science and creative, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said on Sunday.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a programme ‘Foundational Learning Action Tracker (FLAT)’, organised by UNICEF Bangladesh at the Sheraton Dhaka in Banani in the capital. “We do not want children to learn science only from textbooks. We want them to learn through hands-on activities and discover science while playing,” he said.

He said the government is putting greater emphasis on science, mathematics, design and creativity in primary education. Science toys and other hands-on learning materials will be incorporated into the curriculum to make learning more enjoyable and practical.

The government is also planning to introduce ‘math labs’ in primary schools, where students will learn basic mathematical concepts such as shapes, sizes, multiplication, division, addition and subtraction through practical activities and learning materials, he said.

Highlighting the importance of foundational learning, Hajjaj said ensuring basic reading, writing and mathematical skills for every child was one of the key priorities of primary education.
