EC publishes draft voters’ roll 

The Election Commission (EC) has published a draft of the updated voter list ahead of the upcoming local government elections. The total number of registered voters has risen to 12 crore 86 lakh 32 thousand 555, including newly added voters.

EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed shared the information with journalists at the Election Commission building in Dhaka on Sunday.

He said people who turned 18 by 31 July have been included in the voter list. The EC has appointed 154 officials as authorities to deal with claims, objections and requests to correct information in the voter list.

According to an EC notification, the officials have been assigned to 64 districts and different cantonment areas. They will deal with applications for adding names, raising objections and correcting voter information.

Under the Voter List Act, 2009, people can submit claims using Form-6, objections using Form-7 and correction requests using Form-8 after the draft list is published.

According to the EC schedule, applications for claims, objections and corrections will be accepted until 24 August. The draft list was published on 9 August.

The authorities will settle the applications by 27 August. The decisions will be added to the voter list by 28 August. The EC will publish the final updated voter list on 31 August.
