Man held with pistol, bullets in Benapole

A team from Benapole Port Police station has detained a young man with foreign-made pistol from Dighirpar area of Benapole, Jashore on Sunday (August 9).

The arrestee was identified as Mofijur Rahman, 29, son of Alamgir Hossain of Kagojpukur Dakshinpara area under Ward No. 4 of Benapole Municipality.

Police sources said the drive was conducted around 8:20PM under the direction of the Superintendent of Police of Jashore district and guidance of Benapole Port Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ashraf Hossain. Sub-Inspector (SI) Sujatuddaula led the operation with a police team.

Based on a secret information, the police team took position in front of a hardware shop near M/S Shah Jalal Filling Station on the south side of the Benapole-Jashore highway in Dighirpar village. They detained Mofijur on suspicion.

During a search in front of witnesses, police recovered the foreign pistol, two magazines, and 14 rounds of bullets from his possession.

The OC of Benapole Port Police Station said a case under the Arms Act is being filed against the arrestee, and further legal action is underway.

He added that Mofijur already faces four cases, including three drug-related cases and one CR case.
