NCP expelled leader Tanvir sent to three day remand

Gazi Salauddin Ahmed Tanvir, an expelled leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has been placed on a three-day remand in a case filed under the Cyber Security Act in Bogura. Senior Judicial Magistrate of Bogura Sadar Amli Court Mehdi Hasan granted the remand after a hearing on Monday (August 10).

Earlier, the case's investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Masudur Rahman of Bogura Sadar Police Station, produced Tanvir before the court and sought a seven-day remand.

According to police and court sources, Tanvir was arrested from a house in Monipuripara, Mirpur, Dhaka, in the early hours of August 5. He was later taken to Bogura and produced before the court the same day. Following the initial hearing, the court ordered that he be sent to jail.

According to the case statement and relevant sources, Tanvir allegedly made derogatory and defamatory posts on his personal Facebook account targeting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman following an attack on an NCP programme. The posts subsequently spread on social media, triggering tension in the political arena.

Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel, president of the Bogura Sadar unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), filed the case with Bogura Sadar Police Station under the Cyber Security Act.
