100pc pass in 669 instts in SSC

A total of 669 educational institutions across the country have achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations, while 312 institutions recorded a zero per cent pass rate.

The results of the 2026 SSC and equivalent examinations were published on Monday, showing a significant decline in the number of institutions achieving a cent per cent pass rate compared with last year.

According to the results, students from a total of 30,402 educational institutions appeared in this year’s examinations. Of them, all examinees from 669 institutions passed, while none of the students from 312 institutions could pass.

In 2025, as many as 984 educational institutions had achieved a 100 per cent pass rate, while 134 institutions recorded a zero per cent pass rate.

The figures indicate that the number of institutions with a 100 per cent pass rate has fallen by 315 this year, while the number of institutions with no successful candidates has increased by 178 compared with the previous year.

Meanwhile, the overall pass rate across the country’s 11 education boards stood at 62.25 per cent this year, down from 68.45 per cent in 2025.

The decline in the overall pass rate reflects a weaker performance by students compared with the previous year.

The number of students securing the highest grade point average, GPA-5, has also declined this year.

A total of 116,676 students obtained GPA-5 in the 2026 SSC and equivalent examinations, compared with 139,032 students in 2025.

Thus, the number of GPA-5 achievers fell by 22,356 this year.

The SSC and equivalent examinations are among the country’s largest public examinations, with students from general, madrasa and technical education streams taking part each year.

Meanwhile, admission to Class XI in 2026 will follow the existing system, with seats allocated based on students’ GPA scores and preferences, Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee Chairman and Dhaka Education Board Chairman Prof Dr Syed Akhtaruzzaman said on Monday.

“Seats will be allocated under the existing rules based on GPA scores and students’ preferences,” he said at a press briefing held at the Education Ministry at the Secretariat following the publication of the SSC and equivalent examination results.

He said the admission schedule had already been announced and classes would begin immediately after the completion of the admission process on September 15. The exact date for the start of classes would be announced on Monday, he added.

Akhtaruzzaman said nearly 2.5 million seats would be available for admission to higher secondary classes this year, with a larger number of seats expected to remain vacant than in 2025.

A total of 1,829,485 students appeared in the SSC and equivalent examinations this year, of whom 1,138,877 passed. The overall pass rate stood at 62.25 per cent, down by 6.2 percentage points from last year.
He said 58.7 per cent of the available seats were filled last year, leaving 41.3 per cent vacant.

“As the pass rate has declined further this year, a slightly higher number of seats are expected to remain vacant,” he said.

Asked about board-wise performance, the Dhaka Education Board chairman said students in the Mymensingh Education Board performed poorly in Bangla and English.

“After reviewing the results of all boards, I found that English and mathematics have historically had higher failure rates, which brings down the overall pass rate,” he said.

Earlier, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan formally announced the SSC and equivalent examination results.

The minister said the results reflected students’ actual performance.

“A student received marks according to how much they studied. One can sing freely, but marks cannot be given freely in an examination script,” he said.

He apologised for the delay in publishing the results caused by floods and other factors.

Milan also said the government had amended the relevant law to allow students to seek re-scrutiny of their examination scripts.

“Students who apply for re-scrutiny will have their entire scripts re-examined. If any error or irregularity is found, necessary action will be taken,” he said.

Asked about the 312 institutions where no student passed this year, the minister said action would be taken against schools, colleges and madrasas recording a zero per cent pass rate.

He said the government had taken similar measures in the past and would do so again.

Meanwhile, Cadet colleges across the country have achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in this year's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, with 607 of 618 examinees securing GPA-5, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The results mean that 98.22 per cent of the students from the country's 12 cadet colleges obtained the highest grade point.

ISPR disclosed the information at a press release on Monday.

According to the release, cadet colleges are residential educational institutions operated under the direct supervision of the Cadet College Management Council. 

The institutions aim not only to ensure academic excellence but also to develop cadets as disciplined, responsible and capable citizens. Alongside formal education, emphasis is placed on character building and co-curricular activities, while modern educational and co-educational programmes are being incorporated to prepare cadets for future challenges.

ISPR attributed the continued academic performance of cadet colleges to their disciplined residential environment, round-the-clock supervision by experienced faculty members, regular studies and the perseverance of cadets.

The release also credited the Cadet College Governing Council, principals, vice-principals, teachers, officials and other staff for their dedicated efforts, as well as parents for their cooperation in achieving the latest results.
