Sourav Ganguly, wife receive death threats in letter

Former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly and his wife, Dona Ganguly, have received death threats through an anonymous letter sent to their residence in Kolkata.

A complaint was filed with Thakurpukur police station on Monday after Ganguly’s personal secretary, Tania Bhattacharya, approached the police.

According to the complaint, the Ganguly family has been receiving anonymous letters for the past six months. The earlier letters reportedly contained offensive language, but the latest letter allegedly threatened to kill Sourav and Dona.

The family initially did not take the letters seriously. However, they informed police after receiving the latest threat, citing concerns over the couple’s safety.

The letter reportedly contained a phone number. The family suspects the sender may be a person named Arun Kumar, based on the name associated with the number on the Truecaller app. Police are investigating the matter, while the state intelligence department has also been informed.

This is not the first time Ganguly has received a death threat. In 2017, a man named Nirmalya Maiti was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill the former India captain.
