Death threats to Sourav Ganguly, family: Kolkata Police probe

Kolkata Police launched an investigation after former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly and his family received multiple death threats over the past six months.

The Ganguly family and Sourav’s former personal assistant lodged a formal complaint following the arrival of the latest threatening letter on Monday.

The letter was opened at the office of the Cricket Association of Bengal. It contained explicit threats to kill Ganguly, his wife Dona Ganguly, and members of their staff.

Kolkata Police officers confirmed they are treating the complaint seriously. Investigating team members are examining the letters, tracing courier logs, and working to identify the sender.

Initially, the family dismissed the letters as pranks by overenthusiastic fans. However, they approached law enforcement after the letters continued and grew increasingly aggressive.

State security agencies were alerted to step up measures. Ganguly currently holds Y-category security, which was downgraded from Z-category during a previous assessment.

Following the latest threats, fans and supporters called on authorities to upgrade his security coverage immediately.
