JHENAIGATI, SHERPUR, Aug 12: Police have arrested 19 ethnic community men and women over the recovery of the body of a paddy trader buried underground on the Ranjana Canal banks in Purba Gajarikura area of Jhenaiagti Upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon, after eight days of his disappearance.
The deceased Billal Hossain, 45, was the son of Julhas of Jarultala area of the upazila.
According to local and family sources, after Billal Hossain went missing on August 4, family members filed a GD with Jhenaigati Police Station (PS). Locals spotted a body in the said area on Wednesday afternoon. Later, the police recovered the body and sent it to Sherpur District Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, Sherpur Superintendent of Police (SP) AKM Zahirul Islam, Senior Assistant SP (Nalitabari-Jhenaigati Circle) Afsan Al Alam and Officer-in-Charge of Jhenaigati PS SM Nur Mohammad visited the scene.
OC SM Nur Mohammad said that a case is under process in this incident.
