KALIGANJ, GAZIPUR, Aug 12: All five students who appeared in this year's Dakhil examination from Uttar Jamalpur Girls Dakhil Madrasa in Kaliganj Upazila of Gazipur have failed, resulting in a zero per cent pass rate at the institution.
The result has drawn attention because the madrasa has 14 teachers " nearly three teachers for every examinee.
According to the Kaliganj Upazila Secondary Education Office, five students from the madrasa took part in this year's Dakhil examination. None of them passed.
The poor result has raised questions about the institution's academic activities, particularly given its relatively high number of teachers compared with students.
Kazi Mohammad Abu Hanif, superintendent of Uttar Jamalpur Girls Dakhil Madrasa, confirmed that five students had appeared in the examination and none had passed.
Asked about the reason behind the poor result, he said, “The result was poor because the good students got married.”
However, education officials said they would not attribute the outcome solely to the students' performance. The head of the institution has already been called in for an explanation, according to the upazila secondary education officer.
Kaliganj Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md Atikur Rahman said, “One madrasa in the upazila has posted a disastrous result. The head of the institution has already been called in.”
Gazipur District Education Officer Al Mamun Talukdar said the madrasa has no shortage of teachers.
“No student from a madrasa in Kaliganj passed the Dakhil examination. The institution has teachers according to its requirements, and there is no shortage of teachers. We will investigate why the result was so poor and take necessary action,” he said.
The result has prompted questions about not only why none of the five students passed, but also why the institution failed to produce a satisfactory outcome despite having 14 teachers.
Education officials said the matter would be investigated and necessary action taken.
