Inflation has eased sharply in July as prices of food and non-food items softened, dropping to its lowest level in eight months.
Point-to-point inflation stood at 8.32 per cent in the first month of the 2026-27 fiscal year, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data released on Tuesday showed.
Inflation was 8.29 per cent in November last year and 8.49 per cent in December. It stood at 9.16 percent in June, the final month of the 2025-26 fiscal year, after reaching 8.55 per cent in July last year.
The 8.32 per cent rate means a product or service that cost Tk 100 in July last year required Tk 108.32 to buy this July.
Food inflation fell to 7.16 per cent in July from 8.60 percent in June, while non-food inflation eased to 9.28 per cent from 9.61 per cent.
The government has set a target of keeping average inflation at 7.5 percent during the 2026-27 fiscal year, which began on Jul 1.
