Salman Shah’s brother Shahran threatened with ‘same fate’

Mohammad Alamgir Kumpum, complainant in actor Salman Shah murder case and his maternal uncle, has received a threat warning him not to “go too far” with the case. The threat said Salman’s brother Shahran would be killed in the same way if they pursued the case further.
Alamgir Kumpum disclosed the matter to journalists on Wednesday at the Dhaka court premises. He also showed them a screenshot of the threatening message he received on social media. The threat was posted in the comments section of a Facebook Live hosted by a person named ‘Mamun’, who identifies himself as a Salman Shah fan. The threat came from an account named “Shakil Kibria”.
The message read: “Mamun, tell Nila Chowdhury not to go too far over Salman’s death. Otherwise, we will kill Shahran (Salman Shah’s brother) the same way we killed Salman Shah.”
Alamgir Kumpum told the media, “We will file a general diary (GD) with Ramna Model Police Station (PS) over the threat, as the Salman Shah murder case was filed at that PS.”
Meanwhile, a bail hearing for film actor Ashraful Haque Don, an accused in the Salman Shah murder case, was held at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam on the day. 
Don’s lawyer, Tarikul Islam Jewel, sought bail on his behalf, while Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruqi opposed the plea. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail petition.
Mamun, who identifies himself as a Salman Shah fan, said he was hosting the Facebook Live to call for a human chain involving Salman’s fans when the death threat appeared in the comments. The comment was later deleted. He called for an investigation into the threat and urged authorities to bring all those involved in the case to justice.
Don was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport last Sunday and was later sent to jail through court.
The court has ordered the investigation report in the case filed against 11 people, including Salman Shah’s wife Samira Haque, over allegations that the actor was deliberately murdered, to be submitted by August 30. Several unidentified people have also been named as accused.
Alamgir Kumpum filed the case on behalf of Nila Chowdhury, Salman Shah’s mother, on October 20 last year. 
Salman Shah died on September 6, 1996, at a flat in Eskaton in the capital. Initially, his father, Komruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, filed an unnatural death case. Later, on July 24, 1997, an application was filed seeking to convert the case into a murder case.
