ICT prosecution seeks highest punishment for Quader, 6 others

The prosecution on Wednesday sought the highest punishment for seven accused, including former Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader and its affiliated organisations in a crimes against humanity committed during the 2024 July Uprising.
The other accused in the case are former state minister for information Mohammad Ali Arafat; AL Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim; Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash; General Secretary Moinul Hossain Nikhil; Bangladesh Chhatra League President Saddam Hussain and its General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan.
Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam made the submission before International Crimes Tribunal-2, concluding the prosecution’s six-day-long arguments in the case.
He told the tribunal that the prosecution had proved all four charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt, including allegations that more than 1,400 protesters were killed and over 25,000 seriously injured in widespread and systematic attacks carried out with the accused’s knowledge and involvement.
