Truck hits five vehicles waiting for gas in Feni, one killed

A man was killed and a microbus driver injured after a truck rammed into a queue of vehicles waiting for gas at a CNG filling station in Feni’s Chhagalnaiya on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Jewel Das, 35, of Hatiya in Noakhali. He worked at the PHP factory in Muhuriganj.

The accident occurred around 9am in front of Iqbal CNG Filling Station in Muhuriganj area of Ghopal Union, as a long queue of vehicles had formed amid a severe gas shortage.

According to locals and witnesses, Jewel was walking along the Dhaka-Chattogram highway towards his workplace when a speeding Chattogram-bound truck hit him. He died on the spot.

The truck then lost control and rammed into a minibus waiting in the queue. The minibus subsequently hit three microbuses and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in a chain reaction, damaging five vehicles.

Following the accident, angry drivers and locals reportedly assaulted the truck driver.

Fazilpur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam confirmed the incident, saying the body was handed over to the family without an autopsy.

Police were working to remove the damaged vehicles and preparing to file a case, he added.
