Police have intensified anti-drug operations in Hili of Hakimpur upazila, Dinajpur, arresting 452 people in 86 drug-related cases over the past eight months.
According to Hakimpur Police Station, the arrests were made between December 8, 2025 and August 13, 2026. Of those arrested, 242 were accused in drug-related cases, while 210 were detained on allegations of drug consumption.
Local community leaders have welcomed the continued crackdown, saying the availability of drugs in Hili has declined due to increased police surveillance and regular raids.
Hakimpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zakir Hossain said police are conducting regular anti-drug operations under instructions from senior authorities. He said anyone found involved in drug-related activities would be brought under the law.
Assistant Superintendent of Police of Hakimpur-Ghoraghat Circle A N M Niamat Ullah said controlling drugs in the border area is an additional challenge. He said police are focusing not only on users and street-level sellers but also on identifying those behind the drug supply network.
