A mason has died while repairing a septic tank at Debiganj of Panchagarh district.
Police and locals believed that he might have fallen ill after inhaling toxic gas that had accumulated inside the tank and later died.
The uncle of deceased Baburam Debsingh, 45, Buddh Charan Debsingh, filed a case against eight persons at Debiganj police station on Thursday night (August 13) for neglecting their duties.
As per the case details, the accused took Baburam into the newly constructed septic tank at about 9:00 AM without any safety arrangement, though it was locked for quite some time. Baburam got sick inside the septic tank, but the accused did not try to save him or provide any medical aid. He died inside the septic tank between 09:00 AM to 05:00PM.
The relatives of Baburam claimed that around 6:15 PM, three of the accused along with a van driver brought Baburam's body from the septic tank in an autorickshaw and dumped it in the compound of his house.
It was later recovered by the police and sent to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital for the postmortem.
Observation Correspondent Md Musa Mia confirmed the case and said the investigation process is underway.
