Bangladesh's roller skaters punched above their weight at the 2026 Asian Speed Track Series in Lishui, China, returning home with four silver and three bronze medals.
The event, held from 9 to 12 August 9 at the Lishui International Speed Roller Skating Track in China brought together competitors from across Asia.
Mahmud Hossain led the charge in the senior men's category, securing silver in the 1,000m race. In the Junior-A men's division, Irab Muktadir produced an eye-catching display, winning silver in the 5,000m and bronze in the 200m DTT-2 and 500m D events.
Saona Khandaker added two more silvers in the Junior-B women's category, finishing runner-up in both the 200m DTT and 500m D events. Zarif Tajwar Chowdhury completed Bangladesh's medal haul with bronze in the Youth-A men's 1,000m. A further 12 Bangladeshi skaters finished between fourth and eighth, underlining the depth of the team's performance.
Roller Skating Federation general secretary Lutfor Rahman said the results were particularly significant given the quality of opposition, while claiming Bangladesh had climbed to eighth in the Asian ranking.
The federation now hopes regular international exposure and improved training will help its skaters turn this promising run into bigger breakthroughs.
