Jamaat urges President for special JS session on energy crisis

Opposition Leader in Parliament and Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Dr Shafiqur Rahman has urged acting President to convene a special IS session to address acute power and energy crisis and worsening socio-economic and law and order situations across the country.
The Jamaat chief made the request in a letter on Friday. The letter mentions the country is currently facing a severe power crisis. The situation has made daily life difficult for ordinary people and is seriously affecting industries, production and trade.
Copies of the letter were sent to Prime Minister and Parliament Secretariat.
He said the power and energy crisis has directly contributed to rising prices of essential commodities. He also said that, due to the serious deterioration in the overall law and order situation, people are facing growing uncertainty.
“As representatives of the people, we cannot remain silent during this crisis,” the letter said.
The opposition leader said meaningful discussions in Parliament are necessary to understand the situation and find immediate solutions to the emerging problems.
He urged the President to immediately convene a special session of the Jatiya Sangsad to resolve the power and energy crisis and address other related problems facing the country.
Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar has called on young people to build a social resistance against extortion, terrorism, looting and drug abuse, which he said have spread like cancer in society.
