A Qawwali Grand Evening was organised at National Press Club in the city on Friday (August 14), where performances of Qawwali and Sufi music were staged.

Singers Samir Qawwal and Syed Sajjad Hossain Arman along with their respective teams presented several popular Qawwalis in Urdu, Hindi and Bengali languages.

The event started at 7 PM and was presided over by National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz. General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan extended welcome speech at the ceremony.

Some popular Qawwalis such as ‘Ali Ali Moula Ali’, ‘Parda Hai Parda’, ‘Dama Dam Mast Qalandar’ and ‘Khwaja Baba Khwaja Baba Marhaba Marhaba’ were performed which earned rounds of applause from the audience.

Several eminent guests, including Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, Social Welfare Minister Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain and former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Anwarullah Chowdhury, attended the function.

The organisers expressed that the event was organised for journalists to entertain themselves culturally as well as to promote the practice of Qawwali and Sufi music among others.
