Bangladesh envoy meets Sabah Governor to boost trade, ties

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury met Sabah Governor Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Musa bin Haji Aman to discuss expanding trade, investment, and bilateral cooperation.
The meeting took place on Thursday (August 13) at Istana Seri Kinabalu, the official residence of the Governor.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on strengthening trade and investment relations between Bangladesh and the Malaysian state of Sabah, as well as identifying new areas of bilateral cooperation.
The discussion covered timely initiatives to boost bilateral trade, joint exchanges and ventures, agricultural cooperation, educational and academic exchanges, skill development, tourism, deep-sea fishing, and the blue economy.
The High Commissioner emphasized establishing contacts, exchanging delegations, and building institutional links between the business communities and respective chambers of commerce of Bangladesh and Sabah.
Both sides expressed interest in identifying new areas of cooperation to further expand economic relations and people-to-people contacts.
The High Commissioner specifically requested the Governor to remove existing travel barriers for Bangladeshi citizens to Sabah, facilitating easier travel for Bangladeshi businesspersons, professionals, academics, and tourists.
Additionally, the High Commissioner sought the Governor's advice and support regarding the establishment of an Honorary Consulate of Bangladesh in Sabah State.
At the conclusion of the meeting, commemorative gifts were exchanged between both parties. The High Commissioner handed over a gift sent on behalf of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to the Governor of Sabah State.
