Youth gets life term for raping girl in Khulna

KHULNA, Aug 14: Judge Md Rakibul Islam of the Child Violence Prevention Tribunal, District Court, on Thursday sentenced a youth to life imprisonment and also fined him Tk 10,000, in default, to serve more two months in prison for raping a fourth-grade schoolgirl in Dumuria Upazila of the district in 2024.

The convict is Shahin Alam Gazi alias Shahin Gazi, son of Mahabur Gazi of Thukra Village in the upazila. Haridas Tarafdar, bench assistant of the court, confirmed the matter.

According to the prosecution, the victim’s family members went to attend a wedding ceremony at around 8pm on May 1, 2024. Shahin lured the girl with a false pretext to a homestead garden in Ruprampur Village at around 12:30 am, and raped her. Hearing her screams, local people rescued her and admitted her to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Later, the victim’s mother filed a case with Dumuria Police Station.
