A 75-year-old man died after collapsing outside Chauddagram Police Station in Comilla on Saturday while going there to file a complaint against his son.

The deceased was identified as Abu Taher Majumder, a resident of Bangpai village in Munshirhat Union of Chauddagram upazila.

According to police, Taher had gone to the police station to file a complaint against his son, alleging assault and an attempt to strangle him.

He collapsed near the main gate of the police station while entering the premises after writing the complaint at a nearby shop.

Police personnel took him to Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared him dead.

Locals alleged that Taher’s son Sharif had assaulted his father at their home earlier in the day and allegedly attempted to strangle him. Neighbours intervened after hearing his cries.

Chauddagram Police Station Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Arif Hossain said the body was sent to the Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

He said legal action would be taken against the accused after an investigation into the incident.
