Power supply disrupted in Ukhiya-Teknaf

Power supply has been disrupted in Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas after a tree fell on a 33kV power line in Ukhiya on Sunday morning.


The incident occurred near the Morichya BGB checkpost area following heavy rain. The fallen tree damaged several sections of the power line and a four-pole structure supporting it.


Kaizar Noor, deputy general manager of the Ukhia office of Cox’s Bazar Rural Electricity Association, said power supply had been disrupted on several lines in Ukhiya and Teknaf, as well as in the Marine Drive and Jaliapalong areas.


He said repair work was underway and it could take six to seven hours to restore power fully.


Fire Service personnel were also working with the electricity authorities to remove the tree and ensure the safety of the road and power lines.


Ukhiya Fire Service Station Officer Dollar Tripura said firefighters were coordinating with the electricity department to safely remove the fallen tree.


The disruption has affected around three lakh rural electricity consumers in Ukhiya and Teknaf.
