A mobile court of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Sunday afternoon demolished the viral eatery 'Mizaner Bhater Hotel' in the capital's Agargaon area for illegally encroaching on roads and footpaths.

The operation was conducted to clear illegal structures blocking public walkways and causing severe traffic congestion in the Kafrul area.

Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Saiful Islam confirmed the matter.

He said the hotel owner, Mizanur Rahman, had long been running his business by illegally occupying space on the main road and footpath through temporary structures.

A joint team of the city corporation, with full support from Kafrul police, conducted the drive to reclaim the footpaths for smooth pedestrian movement.

Earlier on August 10, Mizan was arrested after he reportedly struck a police officer with a bottle during a drive against illegal power connections in Agargaon.

An executive magistrate present at the scene subsequently sentenced him to 15 days in prison.
