Sheikh Hasina incomparable to any fascist in the world: Rizvi

BNP Standing Committee Member and Political Advisor to the Prime Minister Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday said former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina cannot be compared to any fascist in world history.
"Among fascists, Sheikh Hasina does not match anyone in the world. She doesn't even match other fascists," he said while addressing a discussion titled 'Spirit of July and Future Bangladesh' at the Senate Hall of National University in Gazipur.
The National University organized the event to mark the second anniversary of the July Mass Uprising 2024.
Rizvi said students led the July movement, joined by people from all walks of life - from primary school to university students, alongside workers, rickshaw pullers, hotel staff, and journalists, many of whom embraced martyrdom.
He noted that people across various professions took to the streets under student leadership to protest severe misrule, demonstrating the nation's unyielding spirit against oppression through the ages.
Recalling the British colonial era, Rizvi mentioned how the East India Company established dominance under the guise of trade. He highlighted Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah's bravery, noting he defeated the British twice and recovered Kolkata despite eventual conspiracies.
Rizvi said the people of Bangladesh never accepted those who sacrificed national sovereignty to cling to power.
He praised former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for uniting the nation with courageous leadership in defending democracy and independence, despite facing imprisonment and torture by hegemonist forces.
National University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr ASM Amanullah presided over the program, while Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Md Lutfor Rahman delivered the welcome address.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Treasurer Prof Dr Md Nazmul Hossain also spoke on the occasion.
