Why did Apu Biswas keep her marriage to Shakib Khan secret for nine years?

Actress Apu Biswas kept her marriage to actor Shakib Khan private for nearly nine years before publicly revealing it during a television live programme in 2017. She later explained that career concerns and her child’s identity were the main reasons behind keeping the marriage secret.

Biswas married Shakib Khan in 2008. The couple kept their relationship private until 2017, when Biswas appeared on a live television programme with their son, Abram Khan Joy, and publicly acknowledged her marital relationship with the actor.

In an old radio interview, Biswas explained that revealing the marriage earlier could have affected the investments made in their films and their careers.

She also said she wanted to ensure that her son received social recognition and an identity.

Biswas further said she respected Shakib Khan’s family and, as his wife, considered the family’s honour her own. She said she regularly prayed and fasted while she was married to him.

Speaking about religion, Biswas said she had been encouraged to perform Hajj but wanted to do so only when she felt properly prepared and able to respect the religious obligations.

She also spoke about her religious identity and said she believed her former husband was aware of her views and beliefs.
