The body of a pregnant housewife was found abandoned in the courtyard of her husband's home in Lalmonirhat's Kaliganj upazila on Monday (August 17).

The deceased was identified as Afroza Begum, 18, wife of Deen Islam of Nithak village under Chalbala Union.

Family members alleged that the husband and his relatives brought Afroza's bloodstained body from Gazipur in a hearse, dumped it in the yard, and fled the scene.

According to her family, Afroza was subjected to severe physical torture by her husband at their rented residence in Gazipur's Konabari. Shortly before her death, she reportedly telephoned her father, saying, "I do not think you will see me alive again; they will kill me this time."

Victim's relatives claimed that multiple injury marks were visible on her body.

Police stated that hospital records cited poisoning as the cause of death. However, given the physical injury marks, law enforcement agencies are conducting a thorough investigation. Police assured that legal action will be taken based on the family's complaint.
