BUET holds July mass uprising commemoration ceremony 2026

July Mass Uprising Commemoration Event 2026" was held with due dignity by Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Hon’ble Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, MP graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Hon’ble State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque was present as Special Guest. BUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Eqramul Hoque presided over the event and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shariful Islam attended as Convener.

In his speech, the Hon’ble Minister of Finance and Planning stated, "The bravery and sacrifice shown by the students and citizens during those turbulent days in July will forever be memorable in our national history. Building the Bangladesh envisioned by the martyrs of the July mass uprising is the ultimate tribute we can offer them." The Hon’ble State Minister for Youth and Sports remarked, "Our young generation has played an impeccable role on the streets as the conscience of the nation during critical moments of the country. Government is currently working to transform the youth into skilled human resources by fostering the brilliance and merit of these students."

In his address, the BUET Vice-Chancellor said, "In times of national crisis BUET teachers, students and alumni have consistently stood by the nation through their intellect, courage and sense of responsibility. The July mass uprising of 2024 was no exception. The sacrifices made by all the martyrs and injured students during the July movement will forever inspire our patriotism."In his speech, BUET Pro-Vice-Chancellor of highlighted the contributions of the university's teachers, students, staffs and alumni during July 2024 Mass Uprising. Furthermore, he expressed a firm commitment to building a developed, discrimination-free and prosperous Bangladesh by embracing the spirit of July.

At the event, student from the Department of Chemical Engineering Tasnim Tisha and Fatehuls Islam Rohan from the Department of Architecture delivered speeches on behalf of the BUET students regarding the July Mass Uprising. Additionally, on behalf of the BUET faculty members, Prof. Dr. Md. Sabbir Mostafa Khan, Lecturer Anas Bin Faruque and Lecturer Fariha Islam Mou delivered speeches. During the event, commemorative crests were handed over on behalf of BUET to the family of July Shaheed Abu Sayed, Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, Md. Ismail Hossain Rabbi, Sheikh Fahmin Jafarand to the father of BUET student Shaheed Abrar Fahad.

Deans of all faculties, Heads of departments, Directors of institutes, centers, offices and directorates, hall provosts, faculty members, students, officers and staffs were present at the event.
