LAXMIPUR, Aug 17: Laxmipur Municipality has launched a programme to install 200 dustbins across the town under the slogan, “We are committed to building a clean, tidy and liveable city.”
The programme was inaugurated on Monday afternoon by installing dustbins beside a road in the Chawk Bazar area.
Municipal authorities said 200 plastic dustbins will be installed at different points across the town at a cost of Tk 15 lakh.
Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan inaugurated the programme as the chief guest at an event chaired by municipality administrator Samrat Khisa.
Laxmipur Press Club President AHM Mostakur Rahman, Laxmipur Merchants Association General Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, District Convener of the Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council Dr Ratna Dwip Pal, Municipal Executive Officer Altaf Hossain and Executive Engineer Md Zulfikar Hossain, among others, attended the programme.
Samrat Khisa said the municipality's main objective is to build a “green and clean Laxmipur”.
“We are installing dustbins for this purpose. Dustbins will be installed across the entire municipality,” he said, urging residents to dispose of their waste at designated locations.
Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan said proper waste management is crucial for modern urban management.
