Russell Mia, 27, former president of the outlawed Chunarughat Upazila Chhatra League, has been arrested by police in Habiganj.

He has been arrested at about 1:45 AM on Tuesday from the Aiton-Syedabad area of Chunarughat.

As per reports received from the police, an operation team of Chunarughat Police Station launched a raid in Syedabad based on information and arrested Russell.

Subsequently, he was shown arrested in the case registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Mohammad Saiful Islam, the Officer-in-Charge of Chunarughat Police Station, has confirmed his arrest, saying that he was arrested in the Anti-Terrorism Act case, which is among many others against him at the police station.

"The arrest was made in the interest of public safety," he said.
