BIROL, DINAJPUR, Aug 18: Freedom fighters can never belong to any single political party, and they are national assets, said Dinajpur-2 MP Sadique Reaz Chowdhury Pinak.

“Freedom fighters should never be treated as objects of charity. Whenever they visit any government office for official work, officials should give them priority and try to complete their work promptly,” he said.

He said the freedom fighters had risked their lives to liberate the country in 1971, making it possible for people to live and move freely as citizens of an independent country.

“Freedom fighters can never belong to any single party. You are national assets. You may hold your own political views. There are differences of opinion among people in every profession, and everyone has the right to express their views,” Pinak said.

“However, I would urge you to support and help advance BNP, the party founded by the late freedom fighter and former President Ziaur Rahman,” he said, seeking the support of the freedom fighters.

“With your support and guidance, we can move forward further. Our prime minister is the child of a freedom fighter. I believe freedom fighters will never lose their dignity under his leadership. As the child of a freedom fighter, he will ensure the highest honour for you,” he added.

Pinak made the remarks as the honoured guest at a reception organised by the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Birol Upazila command, at the Upazila Parishad auditorium on Monday afternoon.

Dinajpur District unit command convener Freedom Fighter Mokshed Ali Mongolia chaired the programme, while Joint Convener Freedom Fighter Kabirul Islam delivered the keynote speech.

Biral UNO Md Rezaul Islam, Upazila BNP President Babul Hossain, Acting Municipal BNP President Asadul Haque Hira, Upazila BNP Vice-President Advocate Abdul Baki and Rezaul Islam Badsha, among others, spoke at the event.
