US President Donald Trump wants to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in November, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, citing senior White House officials.

Trump is expected to visit China in November to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen. He reportedly wants to use the trip to hold a bilateral meeting with Kim.

According to the WSJ report, Trump has already instructed White House officials to take the necessary steps to arrange a meeting with Kim in November.

Asked about the possibility of such a meeting, a White House spokesperson told the newspaper, “Our president will meet with Kim Jong Un at the appropriate time.”

The WSJ also contacted North Korea’s UN mission, but no official agreed to comment.

Trump is the only US president to have met a North Korean leader. During his first term, he held three meetings with Kim.

The first took place in Singapore in 2018, followed by a second meeting in Hanoi in 2019.

Their third meeting took place in June 2019 at the inter-Korean border. Trump became the first sitting US president to set foot on North Korean soil during that meeting.
