A mobile court fined two shopkeepers a total of Tk 1,000 for storing expired products in Ruma upazila of Bandarban.

The drive was conducted at Ruma Bazaar at 1:45 PM on Wednesday (August 19).

Ruma Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Liza Akhtar Bithi supervised the operation under Section 51 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.

During the drive, expired goods were found in two shops at Ruma Bazaar. Trader Md. Raribul Islam of Ward 2 was fined Tk 500 under Case No. 02/2026. Another trader, Md. Jahid Hossain, was also fined Tk 500 under Case No. 03/2026.

Court sources confirmed that officers seized the expired items and destroyed them on site in the presence of the UNO.

UNO Liza Akhtar Bithi stated that shopkeepers must not keep expired goods in stock. She emphasized that tobacco products cannot be displayed or sold openly according to the law. She added that mobile courts will operate monthly, and vehicles parked near the local bridge were also ordered to move.

Officials stated that drives to safeguard consumer rights will continue regularly. They urged local traders to verify expiry dates routinely and refrain from selling unsafe products.
