Police recovered the body trader from a paddy field in Shashibhushan Police Station area of Char Fasson upazila in Bhola.
The deceased was identified as Alauddin,50, of Uttar Char Mongal village in the union, was a coconut seller by profession.
His wife, Bibi Fatema Begum, said her husband went to Anjur Hat Chowmuhani Bazar around 5:00pm on Tuesday (August 18) to buy a cake for their grandson and other household necessities.
At around 10:00pm, her nephew Sohag called her and asked where his uncle was. After she told him that Alauddin had gone to the market, Sohag, crying, informed her that Alauddin’s body was lying in a bloodied condition on disputed land about 1,000 feet east of the CMP Road, south of their house.
She immediately went to the spot and found her husband’s shirt lying some distance away. She also said that his mobile phone, money and the items he had purchased from the market were missing.
The family alleged that they had been involved in a long-standing dispute and legal cases with an opposing party over land. They claimed that people from the rival side had killed Alauddin as part of the dispute. They demanded that the actual cause of the incident be uncovered, those involved be identified and the perpetrators be brought to justice.
Shashibhushan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Firoz Ahmed said, ''Alauddin had gone to a local market on Tuesday evening. As he did not return home at night, his relatives began searching for him.At one point, locals found his body lying in a paddy field near the house and informed the police. Police then went to the scene and recovered the body."
The police said, "no visible injury marks were found on the body according to the inquest report. An investigation into the incident is underway, and the actual cause of death will be known after the autopsy report is received."
“We are investigating the incident. However, no case has been filed by the family naming anyone as an accused,” the OC said.
He added that the body had been sent to the morgue at Bhola Sadar Hospital for autopsy. The actual cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report is received.
