RAB rescues 10 from human trafficking gang in Teknaf

RAB-15 has rescued 10 people from a human trafficking gang in Teknaf Upazila in  Cox’s Bazar District before they could be trafficked to Malaysia by sea. A suspected member of the gang was arrested.

RAB-15 Assistant Director AM Faruk confirmed the matter on Thursday.

RAB said it received secret information that an organised human trafficking gang had gathered several Bangladeshi men and women in Ward No. 1 of Teknaf Municipality, intending to send them illegally to Malaysia by sea.

Acting on the information, a team from RAB-15’s CPC-1 Teknaf camp conducted a raid in front of Habibullah’s house near PHP Ice Mill in Nightangpara on Wednesday night.

Sensing the presence of the RAB team, members of the gang attempted to flee. RAB chased them and arrested Abdul Amin, 22, son of Nur Mohammad of Nightongpara in Teknaf Municipality.

During initial interrogation, Abdul Amin admitted that he and his accomplices, who are currently on the run, had gathered the 10 people at the spot with the intention of sending them illegally to Malaysia by sea, RAB said.

The 10 people were safely rescued from the spot and taken into custody. During initial questioning, the rescued people also told RAB that they had been brought to the area with the intention of being trafficked to Malaysia by sea.
