Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrived at Bangabhaban on Friday evening to take the oath of office as the country’s 23rd president.
His motorcade entered Bangabhaban at around 7:08PM, ahead of the oath-taking ceremony scheduled to be held at the Darbar Hall.
Invited guests have also started arriving at Bangabhaban for the ceremony. Ministers, lawmakers, political leaders, senior military and civilian officials, judges, diplomats and other dignitaries are expected to attend the event.
Tight security measures have been put in place in and around Bangabhaban since the afternoon. Traffic diversions have been introduced on several roads, while law enforcement personnel have been deployed at key points to regulate traffic and maintain security.
Mirza Fakhrul’s swearing-in will bring an end to the tenure of the acting president and acting speaker.
