Escapee drug dealer held at Sonargaon

SONARGAON, NARAYANGANJ, Aug 21: Police re-arrested a suspected drug dealer about 10 hours after he escaped custody in Sonargaon Upazila of the district by biting a police officer, authorities said on Friday.

Police arrested Md Raju Mia with 50 yaba tablets in Kobaga Village of Jampur Union in the upazila on Thursday afternoon following a tip-off. 

While officers were taking him to the Taltola Bazar Investigation Centre, he bit Assistant Sub-Inspector Nasir Uddin on the hand and fled while still wearing handcuffs, police said.

Police later raided Raju’s home in the same village around 11:30 pm and arrested him. His elder brother, Akhter Hossain, was also arrested for allegedly aiding Raju’s escape. 

Both are sons of late Hossain Ali of the village.
Taltola Bazar Investigation Centre Inspector Md Jasim Uddin confirmed the arrest.
