Green festival held at Nageshwari to promote tree planting

NAGESHWARI, KURIGRAM, Aug 21: Environmental organisation Aranya organised a day-long green festival at Kachari Payradanga Bahumukhi High School in Nageshwari Upazila on Thursday, marking its 10th founding anniversary.

The programme began at 10am with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Head-teacher Azizul Islam Mondal.
As part of the event, 50 saplings of fruit, forest and medicinal trees were planted on the school premises to promote environmental conservation, mitigate the impacts of climate change and ensure a liveable environment for future generations.

More than 400 fruit and medicinal saplings were also distributed among students from classes VI to X.
A quiz competition, an awareness campaign on environmental protection and a tree exhibition were held throughout the day, with students taking part.

Nikhil Chandra Barman, Upazila Academic Supervisor and chief guest, said tree plantation was essential to maintaining ecological balance and addressing the adverse impacts of climate change.

Nur Mohammad Al Amin, Chairman of the school's governing body, presided over the programme.

Among others, lecturer Tarikul Islam, Abdul Kader, Founder-President of voluntary organisation Phool, Aranya adviser Nur Amin, Founding President Abdus Sobhan Jewel, Abu Jobaid Sagar and headteacher Azizul Islam Mondal addressed the programme.

Teachers, students, Aranya members and people from different professions attended the event.

Abdus Sobhan Jewel said raising environmental awareness and encouraging students to plant trees were the main objectives of the festival.

Aranya Adviser Nur Amin said involving students in such programmes could set an example for other environment-friendly initiatives in the area.

The programme ended with students holding up red cards together to raise awareness against driving nails into trees.
