Police have recovered the bodies of four family members, including a couple, from a locked house in Rangpur.
The deceased were identified as Ganapati Chakraborty Jewel, 65, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty Bala, 50, daughter Prarthi Chakraborty, 25, and son Priyam Chakraborty, 12.
The house had reportedly remained locked from the outside for several days. After a stench began coming from inside, locals became suspicious.
Police later broke the lock and recovered the bodies.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangpur Kotwali Police Station Nazmul Kader said, "The body of teacher Ganapati Chakraborty was found on the rooftop, while the bodies of his wife and daughter were found on the staircase leading to the third floor. The body of his son was recovered from under a bed on the second floor."
Police initially suspect that the incident may have been a planned murder or a family tragedy. However, the exact cause and time of death are yet to be determined. Police and a CID forensic team are investigating the scene. The bodies have been sent to the morgue of Rangpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
The CID investigation team is collecting necessary evidence, and an investigation has already begun to determine how the incident occurred.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner (DIG) Mohammad Abdul Mabud said, "the incident was being treated with the highest priority and that necessary information and evidence were being collected."
