2 Shibir supporters among 3 wounded in Noakhali shooting

At least three people, including two supporters of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, sustained bullet injuries after unidentified terrorists opened fire in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali.

The incident took place on Saturday (August 22) night in front of an auto rice mill in Baraichatal village under Jiratali Union.

The victims were identified as Sakibul Hasan, 17, son of Md Tohidul Islam Khokon; Md Nadim, 17, son of Kafil Shipon; and Saher, son of Md Hossain - all residents of Baraichatal village.

Local residents rescued the injured and admitted them to the Noakhali 250-Bed General Hospital for treatment.

Begumganj Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Abu Zayed confirmed that two of the victims were Shibir supporters. "Peaceful Begumganj has suddenly turned volatile," he said, recalling a similar recent shooting at a wedding. He urged the administration to conduct a fair investigation and arrest the real culprits.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Begumganj Model Police Station Md Shamsuzzaman said police officers inspected the crime scene. "The victims are undergoing treatment at the hospital. We will identify those involved and take legal action," he added.

Earlier on Monday (August 17), at least five people were shot during a firing incident at a wedding ceremony in Alaiyarpur Union under the same upazila.
