32 illegal establishments in the Munshiganj of the Dhaka district were demolished by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).

The drive was conducted from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Sunday. Among the demolished establishments include restaurants, hotels, tea shops and various other businesses.
Allegedly, these establishments were illegal set up by occupying the entrance and surrounding areas of the launch pier with local influential people.

However, according to the former owner of the establishments alleged that the drive was carried out suddenly out of nowhere, without any prior notice. Unsurprisingly, this sudden string of demolitions has left the traders and former owner of those establishments angered.

BIWTA Joint Director Mostafizur Rahman said that a demolition campaign had been carried out in the Munshiganj launch pier area before. Later, this drive was conducted to demolish illegal establishments when they were set up there again.
