A six-member US Embassy delegation led by Scott Hartmann, Director of Public Engagement of Public Diplomacy Section, met Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr A B M Obaidul Islam on Sunday to discuss academic cooperation, Constitution Day events, joint research and heritage preservation.
The meeting also explored opportunities for seminars, public lectures, joint constitutional law programmes and dual-degree initiatives between DU and US universities.
The delegation met the VC at his office. Other members were James A. Stewart, Raihana Sultana, Faroha Shurawardhy, Md Iqbal Mahmud and A. Q. M. Mushfiq Hassan. DU Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr Abdus Salam, Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof Dr Muhammad Ekramul Haque and Director of the Office of International Affairs Prof Dr Syeda Rozana Rashid were also present.
The meeting discussed plans to hold an event on September 17 at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, in collaboration with DU’s Faculty of Law, to celebrate US Constitution Day.
They also discussed organising seminars and public lectures at DU with the participation of US experts, along with joint academic and research programmes on constitutional law and possible dual-degree programmes between DU and US universities.
